The HOMESTEAD CONCERT SERIES returns this fall and winter, proudly presented by Whoop & Hollar Folk Festival.

"Turn Up the Volume of Life"

It's a Home Routes/Chemin Chez Nous tour featuring 5 shows that highlight a touring regional, national, or international artist. The audience gets an "up close and personal" experience with the musicians in a listening room-style atmosphere.

All concerts take place at The Basement Theatre (lower level), located at 601 Tupper Street North in Portage la Prairie.

Showtimes are 7:00 pm with doors at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $25 per concert and available online or at Hill's Drug Store in Portage la Prairie.

MICHAEL McGOVERN (Scotland)

Michael McGovern is a Glasgow-based songwriter and performer whose warm, narrative folk-pop draws inspiration from artists like Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Chavela Vargas. His 2021 debut Highfield Suite, born from a lockdown bedroom project, received critical acclaim across the UK and Ireland. With its rich harmonies, swaying guitars, and themes of nostalgia, love, and longing, the album earned him festival debuts at Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, and HebCelt. He has since toured extensively across Europe and Canada. Currently recording his second album, Michael continues to captivate audiences with vivid storytelling and a voice rooted in both tradition and wanderlust.

ORIT SHIMONI (Manitoba)

Orit Shimoni is a prolific, acclaimed singer-songwriter known for her powerful voice, poetic songwriting, and magnetic stage presence. After spending over a decade living and touring full-time on the road, she has released eleven albums to widespread praise and international radio play. Her music spans genres, blending folk, jazz,
and roots with emotionally rich storytelling. Deeply influenced by her Jewish and Israeli heritage, Orit’s work often reflects themes of peace, humanity, and resilience. In addition to her solo work, she is a sought-after collaborator, lending her distinctive harmonies to numerous artists across the folk and roots music landscape.

LOW LILY (Vermont)

Liz Simmons and Flynn Cohen—brings together masterful musicianship, heartfelt songwriting, and rich vocal harmonies. Based in Vermont, they blend contemporary folk, bluegrass precision, and Americana drive into a sound that is both deeply rooted and refreshingly original. With two #1 folk radio hits and multiple Independent Music Awards, they’ve toured extensively across North America and the UK. Their 2023 album Angels in the Wreckage (produced by Dirk Powell) showcases their dynamic artistry. Notably, their song “Hope Lingers On” has become a global anthem for peace, performed by choirs worldwide. Together, they create music both timeless and urgent.

NOELLE FRANCES (Ontario)

Noelle Frances delivers raw, beautiful acoustic performances infused with humour, emotional depth, and authenticity. With a unique voice, guitar, stomp box, and harmonica, her solo shows are intimate, powerful, and deeply relatable. Alongside her work with acclaimed folk trio The Pairs—who have toured internationally and played top festivals like Mariposa, Calgary Folk Fest, and Cervantino—Noelle has built a strong solo presence, opening for artists like Irish Mythen and Kellie Loder. In 2025, she’ll tour her solo album Talking to Ghosts and The Pairs' new release Together on a Rock, continuing to captivate audiences with her passion and joy.

BURNSTICK (Manitoba)

Burnstick is a JUNO-nominated Indigenous folk duo from Manitoba, made up of husband and wife Nadia and Jason Burnstick. Known for their haunting vocal harmonies and Jason’s masterful lap slide Weissenborn guitar, they create cinematic, emotionally stirring music that resonates deeply with audiences. Their 2019 debut Kîyânaw received national acclaim, and their 2024 follow-up Made of Sin continues their tradition of powerful, thought-provoking storytelling. Blending personal and cultural narratives with rich instrumentation, Burnstick’s performances are both intimate and expansive. With engaging songs and heartfelt connection, they inspire listeners to reflect on identity, memory, and shared human experience.
