About this event:
Welcome to the wonder of Science Slam!

We are Vancouver’s most epic science showdown. Sit back, relax, and watch as our competitors battle to achieve science communication fame and glory while learning something new in to kick off the fall season.

What exactly is a science slam? Based on the format of a poetry slam, a science slam is a competition where speakers gather to share their science with you - the audience. Competitors have five minutes to present on any science topic without the use of a slideshow and are judged based on communication skills, audience impact and scientific content. Props and creative presentation styles are encouraged — no slides!

Topics for Slam into Fall include:
Textile fibres & natural dyes
Gut science
Engineering fat to fight disease
Co-creating arts-based interventions with incarcerated men
Behind the scenes of the Large Hadron Collider
How tattoos work

Enjoy improv? While the Slam scores are being tabulated, members of our audience are welcome to come on stage and participate in a fun, improv show very loosely inspired by science.

Doors open at 7pm, event begins at 7:30pm.

There will be a few tickets available at the door:
$20 cash
(and yes the Fox does have an ATM)

See you there!
